...to 1953. On May 3rd, DW goes on the air with just a German service as the Allied High Commission refused to allow anything else. Germany's President Theodor Heuss spoke to "our cherished countrymen around the world"....
From this modest start, Deutsche Welle developed in to one of the worlds most important international broadcasters with loyal listeners around the world, in an ever increasing number of languages, and mediums. Spoken word, DW-RADIO, also pictures, DW-TV and finally on the internet, DW-WORLD.DE.
