European Central Bank Celebrates a Decade in Business

The European Central Bank celebrated its 10th birthday this week. Some analysts say that the ECB has emerged as one of the cornerstones of stability in the global financial system, while others still have some concerns.

There's been criticism by some quarters that the ECB has had an "anti-growth bias" as the bank has frequently refused to give in to politicians' demands to loosen policy. ECB president Jean-Claude Trichet has insisted that the bank is clear on its primary obligation of keeping prices stable.

However, the anniversary comes at a time when Eurozone residents are blaming the euro for higher prices, with the cost of everyday items from petrol to beer shooting up.

Money Talks spoke to Frederick Erixon from the European Centre for International Political Economy in Brussels for  his assessment of the bank's performance.
