Studio Guest: Doris Möller, expert for forgeries
Our studio guest Doris Möller, from the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce is an expert for brand protection and forgeries.
Oliver Mojen: Mrs. Möller, be honest: have you ever found yourself buying something that was not genuine?
Doris Möller: I think not. Certainly not willingly, at least. Just because I'm so aware of fakes because of doing my job every day, so I'm not willing to buy any fakes.
Oliver Mojen: As we can see, the number of cases of confiscation have gone up significantly - an increase of 16% at EU’s external border 2006 to 2007 - from 37,000 to 43,000 cases. Is this a result of better controls or stricter legislation?

Doris Möller: I think mostly of better controls by customs and certainly because there is a legislative framework that helps the companies to do their work. Most of the companies use the customs as a partner in their fight against counterfeiting, and that's something we ackowledge a lot.
Oliver Mojen: It seems that forgers have shifted to smaller quantities, trying to sell competitively. Is this the new game?
Doris Möller: I think it is a new game, because counterfeiters are afraid that big quantities will be seized by customs. There are fewer big containers but small quantities are now in the line because they occupy the customs and there are a lot of small items going besides.
Oliver Mojen: Do you have that better training for better law enforcement could solve the problem?
Doris Möller: I think a lot of measures could solve the problem: one is certainly better training, but another is consumer behaviour and better preparation on the part of the companies.
