Germany has many public holidays, some of which vary from state to state. Since most things are closed then, it's best to check dates before you make any plans.

  • 6: Epiphany (only in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt)

  • 19: Carnival Monday (only in parts of the Rhineland)

 

April

  • 6: Good Friday
  • 8: Easter
  • 9: Easter Monday

 

May

  • 1: Labor Day
  • 17: Ascension Day
  • 27-28: Pentecost

 

June

  • 7: Corpus Christi

 

August

  • 15: Assumption Day (only in Bavaria and Saarland)

 

October

  • 3: Day of Germany Unity
  • 31: Reformation Day (only in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia)

 

November

  • 1: All Saints’ Day
  • 18: Day of Prayer and Repentance (only in Saxony)

 

December

  • 24: Christmas Eve (half day)
  • 25: First day of Christmas
  • 26: Second day of Christmas
