DW-RADIO

Why has Deutsche Welle discontinued shortwave radio transmissions to North America?

In the last few years, the interest in listening to Deutsche Welle radio broadcasts via shortwave has decreased rapidly in North America.

As a result Deutsche Welle decided to cease shortwave transmissions in German and English to North America.

The majority of our listeners in North America take advantage of live streams, podcasts and on-demand archives on the DW-RADIO platform. These services are also available for mobile devices.

It is sometimes possible in the east of the USA (especially in Florida) to pick up shortwave signals on frequencies intended for other target areas. This is a result of the special propagation properties of shortwave signals.

These frequencies are available from our Customer Service Department. Please do not hesitate to contact us using the feedback form.
