With its new XWD technology for the 9-3 series, Swedish carmaker Saab is beginning a new era. The Swedes had focused on front-wheel drive vehicles, but now their top-of-the-line 9-3 station wagon and 9-3 sedan are available with all-wheel drive. XWD stands for "cross-wheel drive". The intelligent active all-wheel drive system continuously distributes up to 400 Newton meters of torque seamlessly to both axles. The new all-wheel drive models are due to reach dealer showrooms in Germany this summer.
