Situation of Armenian Christians in Turkey Precarious
With nationalist extremists blamed for various attacks, Turkey's Armenian Christian minority lives in a climate of fear.
While the proclamation of the Pauline Year has received substantial media attention, Turkey’s small Christian community has been the target of less welcome publicity. Attacks have claimed the lives of four of its members over the past year. They include the prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, gunned down outside his newspaper office. Police recently intervened to prevent the murder of a priest, while another priest was stabbed in his church.
