Summer "Work-Holiday" May Be More Work Than Fun

If you’re looking for a summer job in Europe, then the Greek Islands probably sound perfect: hot weather, lots of sun, great beaches and parties every night. But how do bad pay, expensive surroundings and seven-day work weeks play into that picture?

Thousands of young people travel to Greece each year, not for holidays, but to work the tourist season, which usually runs between May and October.

Most of them are employed in hotels, bars, restaurants, or at travel or rental car agencies, where their native languages are vital to employers wanting to catch the tourist trade.

But while local employers tout it as a "work-holiday," seasonal workers quickly find out that this may be a euphemism after all.
