The Business of Water
How one German company has made it its business to transform sandy deserts into luscious green agricultural crops.
The Middle East may be rich in oil, but it’s extremely poor in terms of water. And that’s a major hurdle facing the royal families and governments - with populations expanding and development booming: The amount of water available is limiting that growth. Now, one small German company, geohumus, has developed a material that reduces agricultural water consumption by up to 50 per cent. It’s about to hit the shelves here in Germany, but Geohumus has markets like the Middle East firmly in its sights…It’s more evidence of the private sector seeing the potential to transform the scarcity of water into a business venture. And it seems investors too are keen to jump on board the clean and green band wagon.
