A Underestimated Problem - Illiteracy in Germany
It's estimated that some four million people in Germany are functionally illiterate. Malina Gormann is one of them. She can read and write only at the level of a first-grader. Illiteracy makes it hard for people like Malina to find jobs, and in daily life they have to rely on the assistance of others to read for them. At the adult education centre in Mannheim, Malina and her fellow students get a second chance to learn their ABCs.
