The Dalai Lama is continuing his visit to Germany by giving a speech on peace and human rights in the western town of Mönchengladbach. Later in the day, Tibet's 72-year-old spiritual leader is to travel to the Bavarian city of Nuremberg. Meanwhile, China has again sharply criticised the Dalai Lama and his trip to Germany. A senior diplomat at the Chinese embassy in Berlin told the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper that the Dalai Lama's calls for human rights and autonomy amounted to veiled demands for Tibetan independence. On Friday, the embassy lodged an official complaint with the Foreign Office over Monday's planned meeting between the Dalai Lama and German Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul.
