Key nations hold crisis trade talks in Geneva
Delegates from the European Union, the United States and other key nations have held a second round of trade talks in Geneva, Switzerland, aimed at securing a deal between wealthy industrialised nations and developing countries over trade barriers. Brazil, which is acting as an unofficial spokesman for emerging nations, rejected as insufficient a US offer to limit its agricultural subsidies to 15 billion dollars annually. The purpose of the talks is to revitalise the stalled 2001 Doha round, aimed at bolstering the global economy and lowering trade barriers worldwide to allow poorer countries to export more.
