Venezuela's leftist president Hugo Chavez is in Moscow for talks centred on a purchase of Russian arms said to be worth around 1.3 billion euros. The United States has criticised the deal, saying the weaponry goes beyond the country's defensive needs. Chavez met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to finalize details, as well as to discuss setting up Russian military bases on Venezuelan territory.
