Nearly Gone

For quite a while now, Berliners have been able to observe the dismantling of the so-called Palace of the Republic, which served as the seat of East Germany's parliament and a venue for mass events. On Tuesday, July 15, demolition workers took down the last of the giant steel beams that used to carry the building's roof. It'll still take a few months, though, until the ruin is completely gone and Berlin's red city hall, seen in the background, will be completely visible from this point of view. The site won't sit empty for too long, though, since the former Imperial Palace is supposed to be rebuilt where it once stood. Bildunterschrift:
