Remembering the Best and the Worst
Bildunterschrift:
Benno Bleiberg, vice chairman of the Jewish community in Berlin, visited the grave stone of philosopher Moses Mendelssohn at the historic Jewish cemetery in the Mitte district of Berlin on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The place was opened after two years of renovation. Constructed in 1672, it's Berlin's first Jewish cemetery. The cemetery was destroyed by the Nazis in 1943. "The cemetery manifests the best but also the worst times for the Jewish community in Berlin," Bleiberg said at the opening.
