Many Germans are fascinated by Tibet's long cultural tradition - here an Avalokitesvara statue built in the 17th century

Many Germans idealize Tibet as a peaceful dreamland.

The Dalai Lama remains one of the most renowned foreign religious leaders in Germany.  Many Germans in fact have highly romanticized and idealized visions of Tibet and its spiritual leader.
