Steel works machinery

We experience all the wonders of Germany’s annual Ruhrgebiet theatre festival, hear from our Deutsche Welle Listener Clubs and announce the prize winners of the Inbox and NewsLink April quiz question of the month. All that and more of this edition of Inbox!

In 1947 a group of miners from Germany’s industrial Ruhr region loaded a lorry full of stolen coal and sent it to Hamburg, where it was used to heat Germany’s biggest state theater. The coal saved the theater from financial ruin and the actors travelled to the Ruhr region to express their thanks – with theatre.

You can hear all about how this event shaped the annual "Ruhr Theater Festival" in Germany's industrial heartland.

Hosts: Matthew Reardon and Rita Oliver
