One of the main ingredients of bread, as most people know, is flour, so Frankfurt police weren't immediately suspicious when they stopped a driver transporting a ciabatta. But this bread contained another sort of powder.

The officers pulled over the drug courier, a 53-year-old Italian, for undisclosed reasons on a German highway.

At first, everything seemed to be multo bene. All police discovered in the man's car was a bag with a couple of ciabatta rolls in it.

But their suspicions were aroused when they saw marks indicating the bread had been cut open from the bottom and re-plugged.

And after a bit of investigative poking and prodding, the rolls revealed their illegal secret -- 150 grams of cocaine.

Police said the cocaine had a street value of around 7,500 euros ($11,000). The driver said he had been offered 1,000 euros to transport the snows over the Alps from Germany to Italy.

The image of a coke fiend trying to snort a couple of bread rolls up his nostrils has a bit of amusement value, but for the would-be courier, the incident was no laughing matter.

He was arrested.
